*A note on kaya’s name as it appears in this zine:

I did some research on nimipuutímt, the language of the niimiipuu/Nez Perce people (and thus the language kaya would speak). According to nezperce.org, nimipuutímt never uses capital letters, not even for names, unless it is an English name (i.e. the translated name “Swan Circling”). This is why kaya’s full name, kaya’aton’my, as well as her new name, wetyetmas likleinen, appear in all lowercase.

Canonically, in kaya’s book series, Swan Circling is the name of a woman kaya is very close with, who later passes away. kaya discovers that Swan Circling wanted kaya to take her name when it comes time for her to come of age. I did my best to research what the nimipuutímt translation of “Swan Circling” is, and the closest I found was a name that translates to “Circling Swan,” which is wetyetmas likleinen. This name does not appear in the original kaya books; only the English “Swan Circling.”

If this translation is at all incorrect, or if you are a niimiipuu/Nez Perce reader who believes there would be a better name to use, please let me know (through the contact form on my site). I would love to make corrections before I print future editions.
